Do you know how to check the IP address in Windows 7?
In this hub I will share with all of you how to check the IP address on your computer running on Windows 7. Just recently I was able to test this new version of Microsoft’s latest addition to their collection of computer Operating System. In this new Operating System, checking the IP address is a title different, here are the steps on how you can check this information on your computer.
First is the “techy” way, if I may say. For computer savvy out there, you can still check the IP address of your computer through the command prompt. For those who don’t have any idea what is a command prompt, this is the black screen and the command line for Windows.
Here are the steps on how to check the IP address in the command prompt:
1. Click on Start, which is now replaced with the Windows orb. This is a symbol that looks like an orb that has the Windows logo inside the orb.
2. Look for the Search box and type in the search field “cmd” (no quotes). The search result will be shown at the top of the page. And you should see there “Command Prompt”, open the program.
3. On your command prompt (a black screen) type “ipconfig /all” (no quotes) and hit enter or return.
4. A bunch of information will be flashed on the screen; this information will be for all of the connections that are currently active in your computer. Normally, you will see the connection information for Wireless Area Network or Local Area Network. Basically, you need to look in the section for which type of connection you want to check the IP address. In Windows 7, IP address will be labeled as IPv4 IP address. This is the line or entry that you need to look at. You will also see other information in this screen that may be informational depending on what you are doing. Other information you will see here are, Physical Address, Default Gateway, DNS Servers, etc.
Now here is another way on how to check the IP address. If you don’t like the typing thing and you prefer to do this via clicking. Here are the steps on how you can do this:
1. We need to go Network and Sharing Center. There are two ways on how you can get to this screen:
- · Click on Start (Windows Orb) > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Some may not see Network and Internet, and will immediately have an option to go to Network and Sharing Center. This will depend on the setting on the computer.
OR
- · At the bottom right hand side of your screen, look for the computer symbol. Right click on the computer symbol, and then click on Network and Sharing Center.
2. In Network and Sharing Center, on the left hand panel of the screen click Change Adapter Settings.
3. On the Network Adapter Settings screen, choose the connection that you want to check the status. Just right click on the connection, and click on Status.
4. On the Status screen, click on Details. There is Details button the screen and Details tab at the top. Both will get to the same screen.
5. After you hit the Details, just look for IPv4 IP address.
There you have it, know you know how to check the IP address. Thank you for reading.
