By

On this hub I will share to you guys on how you can setup a Linksys ADSL gateway to get it connected to the internet. This will be applicable to all of the Linksys ADSL Gateway be it wired or wireless (WAG54G, WAG54GS, WAG354G, WAG200G WAG300N, WAG325N, WAG54GP2, WAG54GX2, ADSL2MUE, AG241, AM300, etc). For this hub this will be for Linksys users all over the world this will give you the things that you need to get your gateway working. The step will be the same but the setting is different.

1. Physical connection. Here you connect the gateway to your network. Computer should be plugged in to one of the Ethernet port (labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4) and the ADSL line to the port that says ADSL, or Line 1. And power on the gateway some has a power switch on the back and some don't just plug it and it's on. It will depend on the version. Now the lights that you should have there is Power (solid green), WLAN (if it's a wireless ADSL Gateway), One of the Numbered lights (where your computer is plugged in) and the ADSL/DSL light (solid green) and Internet (may not come on if you are not yet connected to the internet.

2. Access the setup page of the Gateway. To access the setup page of the gateway just open your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc) and type in the address bar http://192.168.1.1/ and click go or hit enter. You be prompt for a username and password, just type admin for both fields.

3. After putting in the username and password you will be in the setup page. In the setup page we will put the internet settings from the ADSL provider (ISP).

-Virtual Circuit: VCI: 8 VPI: 35
-DSL Modulation: Multimode (but if your ISP gave you a different settings you can change it that).

  • § For client's in Malaysia (MY)

-Username and Password: This where you type your username and password from your ISP. The username should be in an email format (username@isp.net).
If your country in the list that I have you can check on your Providers website or give them a call and ask for the details that we need to put on your gateways setup page like the Encapsulation, Multiplexing, Virtual Circuit and the most import thing the username and password. After putting in the right ADSL settings just hit Save Settings at the bottom of the page and you are done setting up the gateway for internet.

4. Now to check if your gateway is online you can check the Status tab of the router and you will see there that the Interface is UP and you have numbers for your IP address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, and DNS. And you will also see Internet light on the fort panel of the router will come one and it will start to flash.

And that is how your get the ADSL gateway manually configured for ADSL connection. If you country is on the list of setting that I have above you can use the information above to know what are the setting that you need to ask from your internet service provider to get the gateway online. I hope that this has been informative and helpful to you.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day!

Moh,

I really don't have any information at hand about the ADSL settings of any of the ISPs there in Africa. But on this post you will at least have the idea of the settings that you have to check with your ISP to get the device working. Here are those settings that you need to check with your ISP.

Encapsulation: Is it PPPoe / PPPoA ?

- Multiplexing: LLC or VC- Auto Detect: Disable (if this setting is available, older versions does not have this setting)-Virtual Circuit: VCI: ? VPI: ?-Username and Password: username and password for the internet.

what if you have configured the settings correctly and still the interface of the status tab says "down" ???

and my friend is sure that he got the right un and pw for the dsl account, what will you do???

or what if the dsl light on the gateway is not lit even before you began doing the troubleshooting ???
