How to secure your wireless network
62How to setup WPA-Personal
This will give a step by step guide on how you can make you wireless network secured or in short putting a password to your wireless network. This hub will give you the steps on how you can setup a WPA Security on your Linksys wireless router.
- Access the setup page of the router. I recommend you do this on your computer that is wired directly to the router. Open you browser on your computer (Internet Explorer or Firefox) and type in the address bar http://192.168.1.1/ and click go or hit enter. You will be prompted of a username and password, by default there is no username and password is admin.
- Once you are in the setup page of the router click the tab at the top that says Wireless now just right under the Wireless tab click on Wireless Security. Now on your wireless security tab set the security mode to WPA-Personal and just set the Algorithm to TKIP and on the field that says WPA Shared Key you type the password that you want to use to secure the wireless network (the password you need to type must be 8-63 character, alphanumeric) . Then click on the button at the bottom that says Save Setting and click Continue to go back to the same screen. Once you are back on the same screen you are now done securing your wireless network.
Now if you will try to connect to your wireless network you will be ask for the password or network key. Type in the password and you are now connected to a security enabled wireless network.
I hope that this has been informative and helpful to you.
