How to Wipe your BlackBerry

This hub will help you have an idea on how to get wipe your BlackBerry. The steps for wiping the handheld vary between device models. General steps are provided here for reference. Consult the documentation provided with your device to determine the steps necessary for your particular handheld.

Please be advised that wiping your BlackBerry will remove data on your phone like e-mail, contacts, SMS messages, installed applications, and even files on your memory card. I strongly recommend that you backup your data first on your phone via the BlackBerry desktop manager before doing the steps below.

For older version of BlackBerry OS follow these steps:

1. From the home or applications screen, select Options

2. Select Security Settings

3. Select General Settings

4. Scroll down to Services

5. Click the trackball and choose Wipe Handheld from the menu

6. The device will display a warning indicating that all data will be lost. You will also have an option to include the third party applications installed during the wipe. You can leave this not checked if you want to keep the application you installed on your phone. Then choose Continue

7. Using your handheld’s keyboard, type the word “blackberrythen click the trackball to confirm.

For the newer version of the BlackBerry OS follow these steps:

1. From the home or applications screen, select Options

2. Select Security Options

3. Select General Settings

4. Scroll down to Security Wipe

Select the data that you would like to wipe:

· Emails, Contacts, Etc.All application data will be lost! You will not be able to send or receive mails on the device after you wipe it.

· User Installed ApplicationsAll of the application that you have loaded on your device will be removed.

· Media CardAll of the data on your memory will be lost if this is checked or enabled.

5. After choosing the data that you would like to wipe, type “blackberry” in the field where it says

Enter “blackberry” to confirm wipe: then hit the Wipe button.

6. After you have done step no. 5 the device will show the progress of the wiping, and it will automatically get rebooted.
